There is a fight going on in Nigeria that the mainstream media is underreporting. The conflict is a fight for the country’s control between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram. Boko Haram is trying to convince citizens that their extremist religious ideology represents Islam. Despite the efforts of many citizens and the Nigerian government, Boko Haram remains a major threat, intent on instituting an Islamic caliphate in Nigeria.

“It’s a new day in Gombe State.” Those words, by the Hon. Hassan Ahmadu Haruna, a leading representative of the Governor of the State of Gombe, Nigeria, summed up the tone of the opening ceremony of the OMNIA Institute for Contextual Leadership training for reconciliation and peace held in Gombe, in Northeast Nigeria, February 28-March 3.
On Thursday, Feb. 23, SCUPE officially launched its new organization under a new name: The OMNIA Institute for Contextual Leadership. With an expanded vision and a challenging global mission to create bold leaders for a just world, we are hitting the ground running by announcing TWO workshop programs, an initiative to organize and train activist groups, and the next stage of our Nigeria project.
